We all know club member Kip Dodson as a successful entrepreneur, but he also serves as the Executive Director of the FAIRtax of TN Group.  During this time of national discussion about tax reform, Kip will speak to the club about the FAIRtax. 

Strategic planning, ideal operations, and solving business, sales, marketing/advertising problems has been a main focus throughout Kip's career. His first professional career started as an Imagineer at Walt Disney World - job title was maintenance engineering co-op and his office was behind China in EPCOT Center. After 18 months there, Rockwell Automation then lured him away, where he started his 23 year career. Kip out-performed in his duties for multiple Fortune 500 firms as he established himself as a unique leader. 

He later became an entrepreneur building uniquely strong businesses. One is A Moment's Peace Salon & Day Spa in Franklin, TN, which for the last 15 years is the best within its segments. A Moment’s Peace employs 55 staff, services 50,000 client appointments per year and it has grown three times over since 2004. In concert with his wife Koren they have made it truly unique.

. Smith was named president of Columbia State Community College in late November 2007, and officially took over the presidency on February 18, 2008.

Smith grew up in Houston County, near Erin, Tennessee.  She attended Austin Peay State University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree with a major in health and physical education and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction.  Following Austin Peay, she earned a Doctorate in higher education from George Peabody College for Teachers, Vanderbilt University. She has participated in post-graduate studies at North Carolina State University, Indiana University, Mississippi State University and Harvard.

Dr. Smith is very active in the communities that Columbia State serves – she has presented at area and state conferences, clubs, organizations and events.  She currently serves on the Workforce Investment Board, Maury Alliance Board of Directors, Leadership Middle Tennessee Alumni Association, and Maury Advisory Board to First Farmers Bank, Maury County Leadership Alumni Association, Nashville Symphony Advisory Council and the Family Support Center Board.  In addition, Smith is President of the Tennessee College Association and a member of the national advisory board for the Higher Education Research and Development Institute.

Smith is married to James (Jim) W. Fowler, who is a retired community college Librarian.  They reside in Columbia, Tennessee, with their daughter Alexandra Hiles.  She enjoys gardening, art, and muscle cars.

District 6760 Governor 2017-2018


Jerome Bannister joined Rotary in 1999 and is a member of the Franklin at Breakfast Club in Franklin, Tennessee. Jerome is in technology sales for Graybar Electric. He is a multi-level Paul Harris Society Member and his wife and sons are also Paul Harris fellows.

Jerome was president of the Franklin Rotary at Breakfast, 2007-2008 where he implemented the Dictionary Project for which provides dictionaries for 3rd grade students in Williamson County Schools and Franklin Special School District.  During his term, under his leadership, the club earned the Governor’s Award for Most Outstanding District Club for 2007-2008. This was only the second time in District history that this award has been given to a club. Jerome has served as facilitator and trainer for Mid-South PETS (President Elect Training Seminar) 2008-2011; Assistant Governor over four clubs, 2010-2012; District Finance Committee, 2009-2011, District Membership Committee 2009-2010 and District Secretary 2015-2016.

Outside of Rotary, Jerome enjoys golf and photography. He has served as Sports Booster Club President for Page High School for five years and volunteered for the Boys and Girls Club Wine Down Main Street Fund Raiser for 16 years.  He was also an assistant Boy Scout Leader with Troop 135 for 6 years.

Jerome’s wife of 31 years is Candida Bannister (Member of Rotary Club of Downtown Franklin) and a Business Intelligence Analyst with Premise Health.  They have two sons, Ethan and Austin.

Michelle Conn serves as IJM’s Director of Strategic Partnerships. She travels throughout Texas, Tennessee and Arkansas to educate people about IJM’s work and provide opportunities for engagement in the work of justice. She joined IJM in 1999 as the first-ever fund development staff member, and has traveled to experience IJM’s casework in India, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Guatemala, Kenya and Uganda.

Before joining IJM, Michelle worked for ten years for the United Ways in Florida, Arizona and Tennessee. She received a B.A. in public relations and journalism from Auburn University. Michelle lives in Whites Creek, TN, with her husband and son.

Tennessee Senate Finance, Ways and Means chairman, Senator Bo Watson, is traveling across the state discussing Tennessee's 2017-18 budget with community and business leaders.


Chairman Watson's "Tennessee- A Family Budget" talk has three



                 - engage Tennessee's tax payers in the state's budget process,

                 - review the state's budget checkbook and identify the state's priorities, and

                 - discuss future issues that may have a financial impact on the state's budget.
