Miles Together Inclusive Playground
An inclusive playground is a place where all children can play and have a similar experience. Families can play together and spend quality time with all family members.
The Rotary Clubs of Brentwood, both morning and noon, partnered with the City of Brentwood in 2021 to fundraise for an inclusive playground in Granny White Park. The idea for the playground began earlier, when remaining donated funds from the City of Brentwood’s 50th Birthday Celebration in 2019 were designated to be used for a future inclusive playground. The Miles Together Playground project cost about $1 million dollars, and had its grand opening on September 24, 2022.
What is an Inclusive Playground?
In addition to being accessible, an inclusive playground allows children of all abilities and developmental stages to play in the same space and creates a nurturing environment for all.
Miles Together Playground Name
The Miles Together Playground is named in honor of Miles Peck, who was born with Down syndrome. The Peck family lives in Brentwood and founded the Miles for Miles Foundation, a nonprofit that works to enhance the lives of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The foundation donated $350,000 toward the playground project. Kara Peck, Miles’s mother said, “It’s so important to have the opportunity of inclusivity when you have a child with special needs. Miles Together reflected this. We’re so excited for the fun and joy this playground will offer our entire community!”
